Summary

A terrified voice on the phone。 The line goes dead。 The mystery begins。

During a superstorm, Holly Boswell receives a panicked call from her sister, Vivian: Come get me…There’s somebody coming。 But when Holly arrives at a Long Island marina, there’s only her sister’s abandoned car。 Vivian is gone。

It’s all eerily familiar。 Holly and Vivian used to play hide-and-seek as children。 It was a reprieve from the mental abuses of their parents, psychology professors who raised the siblings as if it were research。 Decades later, Holly is reminded of their childhood games。

In her relentless search for the answers, Holly is reading between the lines in Vivian’s journals。 She’s untangling clues in their mother’s diary and discovering secrets from her sister’s private world that are casting a dangerous shadow。 Maybe Vivian has reasons for wanting to disappear from her well-to-do life。 Or is it something more sinister? As Holly follows Vivian’s trail, she can’t shake the feeling that someone might be following her

Quick enjoyable read。Was a rather good book。 Some chapters had me on the edge of my seat for sure。 Not to mention my disbelief of how awful their husbands were, definitely makes me feel better about any little nags I make toward my own lol。

DNF。 Terrible writing, unrealistic situation, and unlikable characters!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 this book took me 10 days to read。 It doesn’t usually take that long, and towards the end, I definitely skimmed over some sections of it。It started out fast-paced, but then… somehow slowed and dragged on。 I did love the flashbacks into Holly and Vivian’s abusive childhood, but not abusive in the sense that you hear about on TV。 No。 Their mother was a mastermind, a sick mastermind。 She was the ultimate manipulator, all in the name of “research”。 I hated her character, BUT, she was written wonderf this book took me 10 days to read。 It doesn’t usually take that long, and towards the end, I definitely skimmed over some sections of it。It started out fast-paced, but then… somehow slowed and dragged on。 I did love the flashbacks into Holly and Vivian’s abusive childhood, but not abusive in the sense that you hear about on TV。 No。 Their mother was a mastermind, a sick mastermind。 She was the ultimate manipulator, all in the name of “research”。 I hated her character, BUT, she was written wonderfully if that makes any sense。I don’t quite understand why the dual POV was Holly and Clay… I wish it had been Vivian’s POV instead of her shithead of a husband。 That part didn’t make a ton of sense to me。 I would have loved Vivian’s POV。There were a few things that I just didn’t feel like were super believable, for one, the Bermuda PD didn’t even second guess Frankie’s death…? Just seemed odd that it was so quickly over and done with and Holly could go back to the mainland。 I’m not sure that’s how those things are actually handled over there。 I’m hoping not。And then Giana… Clay had psychopathic tendencies。 Give me a reason why he wouldn’t go to the ends of the earth in search of her? His only daughter? That didn’t make sense that he just。。 let her go so easily。 I thought he would put up more of a fight。All in all, Holly and Vivian deserved way better and it was a decent ending in which they both were on their way to greener pastures。 So to speak。 After all the trauma they had endured。 Oh, and Mark can go fuck himself。 His character pissed me off the most, I think。Thank you so much TLC book tours and Amazon Publishing for my gifted copy in exchange for my honest review! 。。。more

Don't botherSo badly written I skimmed almost the whole book。 What a slog。 The hook at the beginning was enough to make me want to know what happened to Viv。 And sadly it wasn't even worth that bit of effort。 The end was as big a mess as the rest of the book。 Don't even bother。 Don't botherSo badly written I skimmed almost the whole book。 What a slog。 The hook at the beginning was enough to make me want to know what happened to Viv。 And sadly it wasn't even worth that bit of effort。 The end was as big a mess as the rest of the book。 Don't even bother。 。。。more

The book kept my interest。 Holly seemed like she thought higher of herself and skills than she should have。 At times she was sympathetic, other time just annoying in her choices。 I recommend this book because even when I wasn’t liking the characters, I still wanted to see what was happening next。

。Eerie twists and turns enjoyed the mystery。 This book is very well written and edited。 I enjoyed it。 I think any mystery lover would enjoy this book。

The premise had potential but the writing is at the same level as that of an untalented high schooler。 It's mind boggling to me that this got through an editor and publisher。 I considered DNFing it By page 50 or so, finally gave up a little shy of the 33% mark。 Save your time and money and skip this one。 The premise had potential but the writing is at the same level as that of an untalented high schooler。 It's mind boggling to me that this got through an editor and publisher。 I considered DNFing it By page 50 or so, finally gave up a little shy of the 33% mark。 Save your time and money and skip this one。 。。。more

Twister filled siblings storyIt was an easy read some interesting character development over the course of the book and an overload of plot twists。The characters are all flawed in fairly destructive ways that are illustrated in hellish family scenarios, just like good psychological crime stories should。We have sibling rivalry, child abuse, spousal abuse, addiction, infidelities, corruption and murder narrated in the hysterical manner of the protagonist。

I wanted to just DNF this one, but i really wanted to know what happened。 I skimmed and skipped some parts。 Where to start, i hated this book。 The men were just so completely awful。 There really wasnt one character you really cared for until the very end。 The flow of memories and present were not well done。 I felt more talked at then anything。 Holly's character was just so completely annoying and hated how the writer wrote about it。 I wanted to just DNF this one, but i really wanted to know what happened。 I skimmed and skipped some parts。 Where to start, i hated this book。 The men were just so completely awful。 There really wasnt one character you really cared for until the very end。 The flow of memories and present were not well done。 I felt more talked at then anything。 Holly's character was just so completely annoying and hated how the writer wrote about it。 。。。more

If she is alive, will the sisters be able to renew their sisterly love despite their pasts?I read some of the reviews for this book and it appears to be a 'love it or hate it' book with very little middle ground。 I fall into the 'love it' category because I thought it was well written and enjoyable。 There were a few times that I thought the characters were acting in an unbelievable way but it was easy for me to overlook 。 If you enjoy suspense books about sisters, you need to give this one a try。 I enjoyed it so much that I plan to check out some of this author's previous books。Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book to read and review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

Interesting ReadIt was an interesting read with a good plot, but both narrators were extremely unreliable。 On top of that, one of the narrators made so many absolutely ridiculous decisions that it became very frustrating。 The ending was a bit predictable, but I enjoyed the read。

I’m surprised I finished this book though admittedly skimmed 50% of it! I was curious enough how it would end so I guess the storyline was ok but so convoluted, and the characters were extremely unlikable。

This book is a difficult one to review。 It was okay, for the most part, but there were some things I did not like about it。 I think it's a 2。5 star book, but rounding up generously。During a superstorm, Holly gets a frantic call for help from her sister。 Against her husband's wishes, Holly takes off towards her sister。 All she finds is Vivian's car and a bracelet。 So, she is left wondering what happened to her sister and since she used to be a journalist, (which is repeated to the reader way too This book is a difficult one to review。 It was okay, for the most part, but there were some things I did not like about it。 I think it's a 2。5 star book, but rounding up generously。During a superstorm, Holly gets a frantic call for help from her sister。 Against her husband's wishes, Holly takes off towards her sister。 All she finds is Vivian's car and a bracelet。 So, she is left wondering what happened to her sister and since she used to be a journalist, (which is repeated to the reader way too many times), she decides to figure it out。We also get Clay, Vivian's husband's point of view。 This definitely helped in seeing what a nice guy he wasn't。 We also get backstory with Vivian and Holly and their mother and how awful she was to her children and why Vivian and Holly are the way they are。 But the thing that I disliked the most about this book was Mark, Holly's husband。 He is a complete jerk and treats his wife horribly, over the top really。 But, a lot of the things that happen in this book are over the top。 The most suspenseful part was the beginning。Thank you to TLC Book Tours, Thomas & Mercer and the author for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

It took me over a month to read this because I kept falling asleep。 Good plot line, I like the overall mystery of the sisters and their story as children。 But the investigation was very, very convoluted and had me skipping pages until the next dialogue between characters。 Maybe other readers loved this more than I, but it wasn’t for me。

Domestic SuspenseThis book is full of so many emotions。 Two sisters, Vivienne and Holly, raised in a house with parents who had no business raising children。 One stormy night Vivienne calls Holly, frantic and needing help。 So begins this twisted mystery。 Holly knows something happened to her big sister but nobody is really listening to her。 Is Vivienne missing or dead? Murdered or a suicide! In her search for her big sister Holly is forced to face her own past。 A great read。

The beginning premise was thrilling。 Then it all went downhill。 This author threw every plot device she could think of into this book and it was rather ridiculous and boring。 I didn’t like any of the characters and the term gaslighting came to mind several times。 I almost quit reading this book but pushed through to the end and I’m a little sorry I did。。。
